Medieval 1 AI is way better but after a while I get annoyed that you can't do some of the basic things introduced in later games, like marching through allied territory. I love Medieval 1 & 2 but truth be told it's just too easy to build an empire, especially in 2. Sounds like Attila will even improve on that mechanic because it seems like building an empire to prepare is way harder. Now I read your comment, what I probably miss in other total wars games is the crazy shake up that can happen when the Golden Horde or Timurids/Mongols appear in Medieval 1 & 2. However, Medieval 2 Total War campaign AI can get really tiring, so been trying to find a replacement historical total war. The first Medieval Total War was my first strategy love, and though ofc the first Rome Total War massively improved the complexity, it wasn't until Medieval 2 Total War that I found a game to eclipse it and forever be my favourite strategy game. Hey man, random late reply but thank you for posting this. Although I did play Rome first, Med 2 was the game that I had 3,785 hours of until I told myself to "please move on" when Attila came out. The kicker for me is how Atilla plays battles, allows governor slots and feels more like my first true love (Med 2). ![]() Which in my opinion is totally fine because I love the idea that they are both different games. Rome 2 doesn't really have this cycling life. After the Huns it dies off until your biggest challenge at that point is managing your empire. Then you will have a super power break out and you will have a rival era until all hell breaks lose and the Huns come. For instance, when you start the game the Roman Empire is lurking as the west is slowly dying and the east will actually try and fight it out a little more. Attila is a living game versus Rome 2 is just a game that allows you to live in a stale world. Attila has cycles of life that Rome 2 never really thought about. The DEI mod makes Rome 2 all the more worth it! The political scene, the population system, and the wicked Roman era but also barbarians on all sides does make for a fun playthrough. I despise Rome 2 for taking all of Attila shine nonetheless Rome 2 did make one breakthrough which was DEI. Covid allowed me to rejoin the craze of Rome 2 modding community. I must do justice to Attila on here! Rome 2 came out completely trash and I stepped away from it for a few years until just last year (late 2021). Even though I could have rushed them early in the game. I believe in one instance skirmishers upgrade to lance cavalry through tech and when I played Saxons, it took me half a campaign before I figured out where my main infantry is recruited. One simply has to figure out or google a decent template and then follow it everywhere.įood production is limited to a province, so even though you have excess of food, your provinces might suffer from famine if you upgrade them too much. Personally, I don't think this adds anything to the gameplay. ![]() For some reason people hate starving, but they hate having a farm in their village just as much. You have to juggle income, food supply, public order, sanitation, as well as religion because every building has some negative to it. ![]() Here, I assume sacking enemy towns could be used to finance the upgrades. The rebuilding costs like 20k, while you barely break even most of the time. When you capture a settlement, you need to rebuild it to your culture, otherwise it has no garrison. I plan to replay it one of these days, now that I should have at least some idea what I'm doing. I should remark, that I played Attila as one of my first TW games and therefore most of the issues likely could have been solved by simply knowing the mechanics better. Think we missed one?
